Mediation
in the NHS
Mediation
will become increasingly significant in the handling of complaints
and litigation within the NHS. It will bring immense advantages for
both NHS Trust managers and also for the patient / complainant.
The
current complaints system in the NHS, currently under review by the
Department of Health, shows that many complainants are not satisfied
by an attempt at local resolution and seek to take the complaint further.
Mediation offers, to both trust managers and to the complainant, the
opportunity of an independent mediator to assist the parties to identify
crucial issues in the complaint and work with them towards a resolution
which is satisfactory to both. Mediation will save time, expense and
assist in an acceptable outcome.
The
National Mediation Centre can assist complainants and NHS Trusts by
setting up a mediation.
